La Mirada, California – In 2017, a defense customer was experiencing quality issues with a competitors’ high voltage, single phase bridge rectifier assembly. This 1 A, 4 kV assembly is used in the power supply for the electronic countermeasures, which protect defense aircraft like the F-16 and A-10.

The customer requested performance upgrades to avoid any other issues, so SSDI tested several high voltage rectifiers from its wide range of products. SSDI selected internal diodes which provide improved VF, IR, tRR, and IFSM ratings to ensure that the assembly would exceed the electrical requirements of the customers’ drawing. After working with the customer to update the drawing, SSDI completed the manufacture and screening of the internal discrete rectifiers as well as the assembly and screening of the final bridge rectifier assembly at its JANS certified / AS9100 certified manufacturing facility in La Mirada, California.

SSDI delivered 200 assemblies for the initial order in 2018, which was followed by 100 units in both 2022 and 2025. Unlike its competitors, SSDI can accommodate low to medium volume orders as needed by the program. Since SSDI’s initial engineering efforts are rewarded with every subsequent order, the customer has assurance that there is a committed supplier for the remaining lifespan of the program.
